Dan Murphy's started as a retail liquor store in Australia and was created in 1952 by Daniel Francis Murphy. Dan. Murphy was a journalist and winemaker who founded the first woman club in Australia. He learned the art of winemaking in a liquor store owned by his father, Timothy Murphy. After his experience as a flight sergeant in RAAF, he opened his first liquor store in 1952, just a street away from his father's store.
