Istanbul - Cappadocia This morning we visit the beautiful Blue Mosque, a true icon of this city, and visit the magnificent Hagia Sophia which has inspired architects and religious leaders for almost 1,500 years. In the afternoon we fly to Cappadocia, renowned for its spectacular landscape. * Stay ina cave hotel in the heart of Cappadocia for fours night and experience the true culture and beauty of the region. Day 5. Cappadocia BD Visit the well-known Ihlara Valley this morning, known for its many cave churches and dwellings that are dotted along the 14-kilometre-long canyon. We'll then travel to Zelve, the centre of Christianity between the 9th and 13th centuries. Day 6. Cappadocia “BD Today we visit the hidden monastic valley of Pagabagi and a traditional carpet factory to learn about the beautiful Turkish carpets. This afternoon we explore the Géreme Valley. Over thousands of years, the rain has eroded this landscape to give rise to strange rock formations known as ‘Fairy Chimneys’. Later today join your guide and follow the paths of the stunning Red Valley. Day 7. Cappadocia We discover the small village of Avanos, and visit one of Cappadocia’s fascinating underground cities. These underground cities were first formed in the 6th century, with some of the tunnels now reaching depths up to 80 metres. te Visit a family in Cappadocia and learn to prepare some of the local culinary specialties in a hands-on cooking class. Day 8. Cappadocia-Konya-Beysehir °BL Today we travel to Konya, one of the oldest cities in Turkey, visiting the Meviana Museum and we learn about the mystical religious sect known as the Whirling Dervishes. “BLD He Watch on asa chef prepares our lunch for today - etli ekmek, a pizza-like specialty that originated in Konya. We'll then make our way further west to the Anatolian town of Beysehir, located on the lake shore with the Taurus Mountains serving as a beautiful backdrop. Day 9. Beysehir - Antalya We begin the day at Eflatun Pinar, a Hittite spring sanctuary (pool monument) dating back to the late Bronze Age, then take a short drive to Esrefoglu Mosque, a mostly wooden structure built in the 13th century. When we arrive in Antalya later this afternoon, we will have a special guest joining us for a coffee. We'll meet a local resident which is a great way to discover more about the culture and way of life in beautiful Turkey. Day 10. Antalya *B Enjoy a day at leisure to explore at your own pace. Why not sample some of the delicious street cuisine or visit the spectacular Duden waterfalls? Day 11. Antalya- Kas Travelling along the Turkish coastline, we stop at the ancient city of Phaselis. Set up by the Rhodians in 700BC, the city is. located on an isthmus that separates two harbours. Continuing down the coast, we stop at Hadrian's Gate, a triumphal arch built in honour of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. In the afternoon we'll arrive in the fishing village ‘of Kas, where you can soak up the village's relaxed ambience at leisure. Day 12. Kas BL he Enjoy a leisurely day cruising the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. Relax and soak up the sun and the spectacular coastal scenery. On the cruise we'll learn about the ancient sunken city of Simena. In the 2nd century the area was hit by a series of fierce earthquakes, which in turn sank the city beneath the Mediterranean waters. Day 13. Kag - Pamukkale BD Today we explore the amazing landscape of Hierapolis, an ancient Greek city sitting on top of the site of Pamukkale. Over a period of 14,000 years, nature has created a unique grouping of hot springs that cascade over a cliff, forming calcium-rich pools. Day 14. Pamukkale - Kusadasi The town of Aphrodisias is named after Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love. Today we'll visit this beautiful city, famous for its School of Sculpture that dates back to Roman times. It's then onto Kusadasi, a popular beachside town boasting 300 days of sunshine a year. Day 15. Kusadasi - Ephesus-Kusadasi »B Step back in time as we visit Ephesus, the largest Roman city ever uncovered. We'll walk through the streets, passing by the Library of Celsus and the Temple of Artemis. We'll stop at a local leather factory before headed to a local winery this evening for wine tasting and dinner. Day 16. Kusadasi - Ganakkale Today we'll visit the Asclepion, a famed ancient medical centre and the world's first psychiatric hospital! In the afternoon we continue to Troy, where the legend of the wooden horse was born. We arrive in Canakkale this evening, a historic port city on the southern coast of the Dardanelles. Day 17. Canakkale - Gallipoli-Istanbul %B he Pay homage to the spirit of the ANZACs in Gallipoli.
