Then discover Ecuador’s second largest city, Guayaquil, before cruising amid the wildlife-rich islands of the Galapagos archipelago. Day 1. Arrive Puerto Maldonado, Amazon Lodge At the end of your escorted journey, fly from Lima to Puerto Maldonado, in the Peruvian Amazon. From here, join a guide through the Inkaterra Butterfly House, before a short cruise via the Madre de Dios River to your lodge. Three Nights: Peruvian Amazon Rainforest, Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica LD Days 2 and 3. Amazon Lodge Over two days, choose the activities that interest you the most. Perhaps take a rainforest treetop canopy walk. Cruise the Madre de Dios River to Lake Sandoval or Gamitana Creek, where monkeys, birds, caiman and tortoises roam freely. Maybe join one of the local village tours or a rainforest-by-night tour. BLD Day 4, Amazon Lodge, Puerto Maldonado, Lima This morning, after breakfast, transfer back to Puerto Maldonado airport for your flight to Lima. Stay: Lima, Wyndham Costa del Sol. B Day 5. Lima, Guayaquil Fly to Guayaquil and relax or explore this, afternoon. Perhaps set off on an in-depth city tour (see pages 44-45) Stay: Wyndham Guayaquil Hotel B Day 6. Guayaquil, Galépagos Islands Fly to Baltra Island and take a ferry to Santa Cruz Island. After lunch, continue to Puerto Ayora. Visit the Charles Darwin Research Station, then board your home for the next four nights. Four Nights: Galdpagos Islands Cruise, Yacht Isabela I! BLD Day 7. Galapagos Islands Cruise Explore Bartolomé Island then board a panga (a Zodiac-like boat) around Pinnacle Rock on the lookout for penguins and dolphins. Later, head to Santiago Island for a swim or walk through the lava trails. BLD Day 8. Galapagos Islands Cruise Admire the birdlife of Santa Cruz Island's Dragon Hill and view land iguanas inland before a chance to snorkel. Later, see birds and sea lions on Santiago Island and perhaps snorkel, take a panga ride or see the world below the surface on a glass-bottom boat. BLD Day 9. Galdpagos Islands Cruise Observe fur seals, Nazca boobies and iguanas at Isabela Island and snorkel along the cliffs if conditions permit. Later explore the remarkable Fernandina Island and admire its wildlife. BLD Day 10. Galapagos Islands, Guayaquil Disembark at Baltra Island and transfer to the airport to fly to Guayaquil.
