What is the meaning of Halloween?
When the skies darken, and spirits roam in October, it’s time for trick or treating. Halloween is a cultural holiday celebrated in Australia, the United States and other places worldwide. Although Halloween is celebrated in the dark of night, it’s not as dark as imagined. Halloween is actually a celebration of souls. It was initially called “All Hallows’ Eve,” which takes place the night before “All Souls Day” on November 1. Halloween is rooted in many cultures' way of celebrating the souls of beloved people who have passed on. It has gradually evolved into a fun holiday night when kids and adults dress up in scary costumes and perform tricks in exchange for treats.
When is Halloween?
Halloween, or All Hallows' Eve, is a yearly holiday that falls on October 31 - just before All Souls Day.
How is Halloween Celebrated?
Keeping in line with the holiday spirit, Halloween is celebrated mainly by kids and adults who dress up in costumes (funny or scary). Houses and even corporate organisations are often “dressed up” with Halloween decorations. You’ll quickly find skulls, jack-o-lanterns and other scary decorations on houses for Halloween. Once dressed up in Halloween costumes, kids mostly go around their neighbourhood for trick-or-treating. They knock on house doors and say “trick-or-treat” with their arms stretched out with a trick-or-treat sack. Neighbours often say “treat” and drop sizable packs of candies into the outstretched sacks. But, if you say “tricktrick” the kids will show you a fancy trick before you drop the treats. Adults, on the other hand, usually enjoy going out to Halloween costume parties where there are lots of games, pranks, drinks, and more to enjoy.
Which Stores Have Halloween Sales?
There are lots of stores that have Halloween sales. Halloween sales are mainly known for the price slashes and special offers on all products. But you’d enjoy heavier discounts if you’re shopping for Halloween decorations. Many retail stores in Australia are open for Halloween decoration sales, but the top stores that have Halloween sales are Target, Amazon, Costume Box, Lincraft, Etsy, and eBay.
