The beginning of SportsPower was in 1978 when eight independent retail brands saw an opportunity to grow and went for it. They combined to form a co-operative names Sports Star. Their idea was simple; if they operated as a group, they would be able to offer greater advantages than if they tried to survive as single retailers. Their success began to grow, and so did their membership; other independent retailers began to join their team and got a new name, City & Country Sports. Later on, in 1985, they became SportsPower. Since then, they have worked hard to increase their marketing and advertising presence. Throughout the years, they have continued to try out expansion programs that have helped them gain over 120 stores which have made them highly regarded in the retail sporting goods society.
