Sightseeing will begin this afternoon. %& Cruise along the calm waters of the jungle-fringed Negombo Lagoon at sunset before enjoying a delicious BBQ dinner. Day 3. Negombo - Dambulla- Sigiriya °<BD This morning we tour Negombo, visiting the fish markets when they are full of life. We head to Habarana stopping at the Cave Temples of Dambulla, built by King Valagamba in the Ist century BC. This temple complex houses approximately 150 statues and paintings of Buddha, some of Sri Lanka's most important religious art. Day 4. Sigiriya “BD Deep in the jungle around a large hill formed by huge sculptural granite monoliths, lies the ancient and now abandoned hermitage of Ritigala. We'll explore the Ritigala Medicinal Forest home to streams, pools and granite boulders leading to ruins with meditation platforms. This afternoon we travel to Minneriya National Park. The park's central feature is the ancient Minneriya Tank, built in the 3rd century by King Mahasena. During the dry season (June-September) elephants come to graze and bathe in the water. Day 5. Sigi Our day begins with a visit to the medieval capital of Polonnaruwa. Built alongside a large artificial lake, the city is brimming with archaeological treasures. We'll discover the well-preserved ruins of palaces, stupas, bathing pools and exquisite rock sculptures of Buddha. After lunch in Polonnaruwa, we'll return to our hotel to freshen up and take some time to relax before dinner this evening. Day 6. Sigiriya @ °BLD Today we explore the famous rock fortress of Sigiriya - ‘Lion Rock’. This UNESCO World Heritage-listed site was formed by magma from an extinct volcano and was home to Buddhist monks for many centuries. Itis regarded as one of Sri Lanka's most impressive sites and is located on top of a vast 200-metre-high granite rock. We'll be met at the top of our 1,200 step climb with incredible views over the Sri Lankan jungle. y Visit a local village near Sigiriya and be welcomed into a local home for a traditional lunch. Day 7. Sigiriya - Matale - Kandy We begin our journey to Kandy, visiting spice plantations along the way. We will also visit the Coconut House, to see how alocal family utilises every element of a coconut tree. In Kandy, we'll visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. The temple houses one of the most sacred relics of Buddhism - a tooth of Buddha collected from his funeral pyre. Day 8. Kandy “BD Today is dedicated to exploring Kandy, Sri Lanka's cultural heart. We'll stop at the Royal Botanic Gardens of Peradeniya, where exotic crops including coffee, tea, nutmeg and cinchona were first tried and tested. Later this afternoon, we'll enjoy a traditional cultural show and Kandyan dance performance, “BD including the cobra and mask dance. Day 9. Kandy - Nuwara Eliya “BD The main hill resort of Sri Lanka, Nuwara Eliya is the heart of Sri Lanka's lush tea growing region. We board a local train this morning for ascenic ride en-route to Nuwara Eliya. Day 10. It's also believed to have one of the highest- density leopard populations in the world. Day 13. Yala - Weligama - Galle Driving along Sri Lanka's beautiful south coast, we make our way to the Dutch colonial town of Galle. Here we'll take a city tour and visit its UNESCO World Heritage-listed sea fortress.
