Day 1. Depart Australia Day 2. Arrive Rome Welcome to vibrant Italy and the beautiful Eternal City of Rome! Meet your fellow travellers and Tour Director for a welcome drink this evening Day 3. Rome This morning we explore Imperial Rome. Highlights include the Roman Forum, Piazza Venezia, the Capitol and the Colosseum (fast- track entry), where gladiatorial contests and games were held along with mock sea battles and executions. The afternoon is at leisure before tonight's group welcome dinner. Day 4. Rome “B Discover majestic Vatican City this morning. We'll visit the amazing Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica - all containing works of art and sculptures by Michelangelo. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to explore the city at your own pace. Day 5.Rome-Pompeii-Sorrento® BD We travel to the stunning Bay of Naples and the town of Sorrento via the ancient city of Pompeii. Buried under ash for centuries after the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79AD, itis one of the best-preserved examples of Roman civilisation. te Enjoy an italian culinary experience, with a hands-on lesson teaching us how to make pizza the authentic way. Day 6. Isle of Capri Excursion After breakfast, we take a ferry to the island of Capri. Beguiling Capri is known for its rugged landscape, café culture and brilliant bougainvillea. We'll tour the hilltop town of Anacapri and have some time at leisure before returning to Sorrento in the late afternoon. Day 7. Amalfi Coast Excursion “B We'll travel along the famous Amalfi Coast and through the stunning towns of Positano and Amalfi today, making several photo stops along the way. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure in Sorrento. Day 8. Sorrento - Alberobello On our way to Alberobello, we visit the 13th century UNESCO World Heritage-listed Castel del Monte in Andria. When we arrive in Alberobello, famous for its unique limestone dwellings, we'll explore the town on foot. Spend two nights staying in a traditional, heritage-listed trullo, a conical shaped house unique to the region of Puglia. Day 9. Grotte di Castellana & Monopoli Excursion The Grotte di Castellana began to form some 90 million years ago and is more than 3 kilometres long. We'll take a guided tour of this natural wonder to admire the incredible stalactites and stalagmites, fossils and canyons. We'll also visit the seaside town of Monopoli which was first settled around 500 BC. Tonight, we meet a local and learn about everyday life in southern Italy. Day 10. Alberobello - Ostuni - Matera On our way to Matera, we visit the beautiful ‘White City’ of Ostuni, spread high on a hill just 8 kilometres from Italy's Adriatic coast. Take a tour of a local olive farm. Located on the plains of the Marina di Ostuni, the impressive olive trees are thought to be up toa thousand years old. Stay in one of Matera’s impressive cave residences known as ‘sassi’ for two nights. BD “B “~B “BD “B Day 11. Matera @ We begin the day with a walking tour of unusual Matera, famous for its unique cave dwellings, before enjoying an afternoon at leisure. Day 12. Matera - Giardini Naxos “BD This morning we cross the Strait of Messina to Sicily. Once we arrive in Sicily, we'll make our way along the coast to the charming resort town of Giardini Naxos overlooking the lonian Sea. Day 13. Mount Etna & Taormina Excursion Today we visit Mount Etna, Europe's largest active volcano. In the afternoon we'll explore the hillside town of Taormina, where we'll stroll along the narrow streets, see the 13th century Duomo and enjoy sweeping views over the Gulf of Naxos. Day 14. Giardini Naxos - Palermo: “’B Travelling to Palermo, we stop in the charming seaside village of Cefalu. Here we'll enjoy some free time where you may wish to visit the town's historic centre and admire the exterior of the medieval-style Norman Basilica, which began construction in 1131 by King Roger Il. Day 15. Palermo Palermo, the capital of Sicily, has been invaded many times and this is evident in the many architectural styles that can be seen. We'll visit the Moorish St John of the Hermits Church, the Norman Palace, and the Cathedral, characterised by its fusion of Romanesque, baroque and gothic styles. Day 16. Palermo - Agrigento “eB Today we travel to Agrigento via the humble hillside town of Monreale, home to the Cattedrale di Monreale. Later we'll explore Agrigento’s ‘Valley of the Temples’, including a visit to the Temple of Zeus. Day 17. Agrigento - Malta “BD We make our way along the coast, stopping to explore in the beautiful Ragusa region. In the town of Modica we'll stop and try the speciality of the region ‘Cioccolato di Modica’, characterised by a grainy texture and aromatic flavour. This evening we cross the Mediterranean to the island of Malta. Day 18. Malta ~B Today we explore Malta’s capital, Valletta. Highlights include the Upper Barrakka Gardens, St John Co-Cathedral, the Casa Rocca Piccola, and the Malta 5D Show. We'll then board a traditional dghajsa for a cruise around Valletta’s Grand Harbour. We Visit the oldest cafe in Valletta and enjoy tea or coffee with freshly prepared pastries known as pastizzi. Day 19. Malta “BL We discover the tiny island of Gozo. Marvel at the rugged terrain and spectacular coastline. * Visit Ta'Mena Estate, where we'll be able to taste some local Gozitan wine and produce over a light lunch and tasting. Day 20. Malta “BD A full day at leisure to enjoy the island of Malta. This evening we'll explore the former capital of Mdina at dusk. Our guide will share tales as we wander the streets, lit by lanterns. After our walk we'll enjoy a group farewell dinner. Day 21. Depart Malta Today we begin our journey home. Day 22. In Transit Day 23.
