Berlin BD Our tour of Berlin today includes reminders of the city’s turbulent 20th century history. We'll visit the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate, Potsdamer Platz and the remains of the Berlin Wall. End the morning at the top of the Berliner Fernsehturm, the highest building in the city, with 360° views. The afternoon is at leisure before we meet in the evening for a group welcome dinner. Day 4. Berlin - Warsaw Travelling east, we cross the border into Poland. Situated in the heart of Europe, it has been both a bridge and frontline between Eastern and Western Europe. On our way its capital of Warsaw, we'll stop in the historic town of Poznan, known for its colourful architecture and Old World charm. Then sit back and take in the rolling hills and forests as we continue to the country's largest city. Day 5. Warsaw Our morning tour of the city begins in the Old Town, intricately reconstructed after WWII. Next we take a drive along a portion of the Royal Route to see the city's beautiful palaces, residences and churches, visit the Warsaw Ghetto Memorial and stop at the Chopin Monument. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure, exploring at your own pace. Day 6. Warsaw - Krakow Watch the scenery pass by as we travel to Krakow, a harmonious and elegant city, rich in history. Here we will take a tour of the highlights. At its heart is the historic Old Town ‘Square, surrounded by a series of public parks called 'The Planty’. Within the square we'll see the Town Hall Tower and visit St Mary's Church - make sure you look up when we enter, the interior is unexpectedly breathtaking! Day 7. Krakow “B * Visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wieliczka Salt Mine - one of the world's oldest operating mines, dating back to the 13th century. In the afternoon we pay a moving visit to the. Auschwitz concentration camp, which stands as a poignant reminder of the horrific crimes of WWII. Today the preserved buildings house displays of photographs and articles that evoke the personal tragedy of individuals, as well as the grand scale of the horrors that occurred between 1940 and 1945. Day 8. Krakow - Budapest “B Today we cross the border and drive through the Slovakian countryside to Hungary and the grand city of Budapest, lining the banks of the Danube. Along the way we visit Orava Castle, perched like an eagle's nest high on a rock overlooking the Orava River. After a tour of the castle we continue our journey to Budapest. Day 9. Budapest *B Facing each other across the Danube River, the former cities of Buda and Pest are linked bya series of beautiful bridges. Today we'll tour the Castle Hill area and its intricate buildings, the Fisherman's Bastion, Matthias Church, the Heroes’ Square and Gellert Hill with its Citadel. ‘ty Pélinka is one of Hungary's favourite drinks. A traditional fruit brandy, we'll learn all about its history and enjoy a tasting at Budapest's brand new Palinka Museum. ¥B *B ¥%B Day 10. Budapest - Bratislava-Vienna ™“B This morning we head to Bratislava, Slovakia’s capital city, situated on the Danube at the border of Austria and Hungary. Here we enjoy some free time to explore. Next we take a boat to Vienna, Europe's bastion of imperial grandeur and culture. Day 11. Vienna Our sightseeing in Vienna begins with a drive along the famous Ringstrasse to see Belvedere Palace, Hofburg Palace and St Stephen's Cathedral. Then it's onto the impressive baroque Imperial Palace complex of Schénbrunn. We'll stroll through the perfectly manicured 18th century gardens and wonder at the sheer opulence of the rooms of the Residential Palace. * At the Imperial Palace of Schénbrunn we'll learn all about the original Viennese strudel in a cooking demonstration, and of course we'll enjoy a piece of this sweet treat. Day 12. Vienna *B Spend the day at leisure, enjoying this glorious city at your own pace. Vienna - Cesky Krumlov Today we cross the border into the Czech Republic and make our way to the fairytale village of Cesky Krumlov. Along the way we'll take some time to stroll through the pretty streets of DUrnstein and visit Melk to explore its remarkable Benedictine abbey. Day 14. Cesky Krumlov “B Today we explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town of Cesky Krumlov. The cobblestone streets are dotted with over 300 protected medieval buildings and the second largest castle complex in the Czech Republic. he Enjoy a tea or coffee at Café Hrddek in the Cesky Krumlov Castle Tower, a great location to sit back and take in the historic surroundings. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure to wander the quaint streets of this beautiful city. Day 15. Cesky Krumlov - Prague “B Today we visit the fascinating Bone Church of Kutna Hora. Here the bones of more than 40,000 people decorate the Sedlec Ossuary. We then travel north to stunning Prague, one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Why not visit Charles Bridge as the sun sets? Day 16. Prague Set on the banks of the River Vitava and spanned by more than 30 bridges, Prague is a visual delight.
