OUR SOCIAL IMPACT & RESPONSIBILITY OUR VISION IS THAT OF A LAND WHERE PEOPLE LIVE IN HARMONY WITH THE EARTH AND ALL THE CREATURES THAT LIVE UPON IT. The Nomad African Trust was established in 2008 by Alexander Rutherford, founder and owner of Nomad. In deciding how to proceed with the vision of the Trust we had to determine how we were going to approach the multitude of challenges facing Africa every day. We came up with these guiding principles: People, Places, Animals. To date we have been able to see positive results in our efforts and approach. We are able to provide focussed and specific help across these three fronts. Through this we have been able to effect real change by ensuring funding is spent in such a way so as to create permanent and long lasting benefits to our beneficiaries. PEOPLE. We believe without jobs, modernisation initiatives are bound to fail. This is why we continue to focus heavily on job creation and skills development. We also target basic human needs like food, shelter and health care which, in Africa, are all too often found wanting. Another focus of our drive is to continue to support and help uplift rural areas as we believe that the source of many of the problems facing Africa lie in the challenges facing these communities. PLACES. Instead of the sole focus being on only the remote wild lands of Africa we tend to focus more on the urban environment and their immediate surroundings. Areas of successful tourism operations are for the most part already protected by their position in the spotlight. It is the lesser known places of Africa that often need the greatest help and exposure. We believe that diversity should remain one of the most treasured characteris- tics of this beautiful planet. WAYS YOU CAN MAKE AN GREEN SEATS The Nomad African Trust strives to give back to Africa. We are very aware of the impact on the environment and communities we visit. We founded a non-profit trust to preserve and uplift the people, places and animals of this continent. Our continual aim is to get funding from players in the tourism industry and other related sectors in order to help and protect the very people, places and animals that these parties earn their living from. Clients can purchase Green Seats and see their contribution encourage real change. Funding is spent in such a way as to create permanent & long lasting benefits to our beneficiaries IMPACT WITH NOMAD l SUITCASE PROJECT Seeking Unity in Travel Creating & Aiding Sustainable Environments, "SUITCASE", is the latest project to be launched by the Nomad African Trust. The SUITCASE project will enable our guests to contribute items that can be packed into their suitcases en-route to Africa, prior to the commencement of their tour. Items such as stationery, books, clothes or non-perishable goods are just a few of the donations that can be packed. The Nomad Trust will have collection points at all our major starting points and from there, we will manage and distribute the donated items to the communities and projects in need. See You On The Road ANIMALS. A huge amount of focus is already placed on the select few animals that generate the most interest. Although we are involved in anti-poaching initiatives and the protection of these creatures, our objective is also to assist with some of the lesser known animals in dire need of help. Our intention is to get involved in the breeding programmes and relocation of these species to their natural habitats and to restore these various regions to their former glory. PLEDGE A TREE The Nomad African Trust in collaboration with Nomad Africa Tours & Safaris and The Greenpop Foundation’s Forests for Life programme, aims to connect small-scale organisations across Sub-Saharan Africa with funding and support to plant trees, restore forest and woodland habitats, effectively manage critical catchment areas, and improve the lives of communities who rely on forest resources. The programme aims to plant enough trees to restore degraded forest areas, increase biodiversity, and expand ecosystem services across Sub-Saharan Africa in the future. Pledge your tree today!
