Torstein helps to organise optional hikes at ports along the coast, such as romantic Uttakleiv beach in Lofoten, one of Torstein’s favourites. “Being a Coastal Expert for The Coastal Express isa dream come true,’ he exclaims. “The Norwegian coastline is unique, and I still can’t believe that I get to bea part of itevery day!” Torstein highlights that “Many guests enjoy volunteering on our optional beach clean-ups, helping to remove plastic and other litter from the beach. It's outdoors, active, and it helps nature. Wealso give eye-opening lectures on how climate change is visibly affecting the Arctic and the Norwegian coast. These can leave quite a deep impression on guests”. After a trip with us, Kristina from Hanover fell in love with the coast and promptly moved to Bergen where she became a Coastal Expert. “It’s so important that our guests get to know the coast and its history,’ she says. “T want to teach them everything I can about the wildlife and nature they can experience on their trip” Kristina notes that there's a lot of per- sonal interest too. “I often get questions about Norway and what it’s like for me to live here. I share as much as I can about my experiences and, at the same time, I get to know the guests too. “My favourite place is Helgeland. The Seven Sisters mountain range is just spectacular,’ says Kristina enthu- siastically. “I also love when we sail Hjorundfjord to Urke in autumn. The scenery is so beautiful, and they have really good waffles there!” she laughs. Having worked as a Coastal Expert since 2015, Stefan feels his role on board is “to give guests an experience they didn’t expect, but also a personal touch - the feeling of already knowing someone on board” Stefan has lived on the Norwegian coast for several years. He comments, “There's so much to see on the coast, and so many interesting things to share with guests — the harbours, the fjords, and the amazing nature here. I like to stay out on decka lot sol can point out places of interest that our guests can see along the ship’s route.” He goes on to say, “I think that The Coastal Express can tell a story about the Norwegian coast that no one else can. Its long history here means the shipsand the crew area natural and important part of people's lives along the coast.” 107
