Inca wonders and the highlights of the Altiplano After a flight from Lima to Juliaca, you'll see the pre-Inca tombs of Sillustani before heading to Lake Titicaca, the largest high -altitude lake on Earth. Here, you'll visit the Uru people on their handmade reed- constructed floating islands, before crossing the Altiplano (Andean Plateau) to the ‘Lost City’ of Machu Picchu. The luxurious Hiram Bingham train will travel up the Sacred Valley to bring you to the once hidden site. Wander the ruins here and wonder what could have caused the ancient city’s mysterious downfall. Then visit the Sacsayhuaman fortress on a visit to the former Inca capital, Cusco. Ancient mysteries and UNESCO histories Flying back to Lima, you'll enjoy a guided tour and explore the city’s UNESCO- listed historic centre. Boarding your ship the next day, we'll set course for Paracas where you may have an opportunity to see the wildlife of the Ballestas Islands or the famous Nazca Lines. Enjoy the sunshine and beaches in Arica and visit an old mining town in the Atacama Desert near Iquique. We'll then stop at La Serena, Chile's second- oldest city with as many as 30 colonial churches, before your expedition cruise ends in the colourful port of Valparaiso. In true expedition style we'll adapt to local sea and weather conditions when- ever we need to, and during days at sea you'll be able to take advantage of the ship's excellent learning, leisure and dining facilities.
