The Panama Canal, beaches and bananas Your journey starts in Colon, before spending a day transiting the full length of the Panama Canal. Once through, we sail south to Manta in Ecuador and the nearby town of Montecristi where Panama hats were first created. Later, we arrive at Puerto Bolivar, known as the âBanana Capital of the Worldâ. After a relaxing day at sea, you'll head to Trujillo in Peru to explore the ruins of ancient kingdoms. Inca history, ancient mysteries and UNESCO sites Leaving your ship, you'll fly from Lima to Cusco and visit historical sites in and around the former capital of the Inca empire, like the imposing Sacsayhuaman fortress and the Dominican Convent of Santo Domingo. The following morning, we'll head to Ollantaytambo and you'll board the luxury Belmond Hiram Bingham train to the ever-impressive Machu Picchu. Wander the ruins, admire its awe-inducing setting, and imagine what life must have been like here more than 500 years ago. The worldâs highest navigable lake You'll then continue on the Andean Plateau (Altiplano) to Lake Titicaca, the largest lake in South America. Located 12,500 feet above sea level and surrounded by mountains, the lake is simply stunning. A boat will take you across to visit the Uru community, who live on floating Islands handwoven from yellow reeds. Meet the locals in the village of LlachĂ©n on the Capachica peninsula and try your hand at kayaking on the lake.
