Advertising promotion Pots of love Create a thriving potted garden with Scotts Osmocote here's something magic about T ens the perfect plant, picking the right pot and bringing it home to meet the rest of your plant family. It could be the idea of beautiful blooms or tasty fruit, or the transformation that comes from potting up a gorgeous group of plants to green up your living spaces. It doesn’t matter whether you have a glowing green thumb or you've just started your growing journey — when you use all the right ingredients and add alittle extra love, you'll bring out the best in all you grow. START WITH THE BEST Just as we need a strong foundation for a solid home, our plants need the right potting mix to maintain happy and healthy growth. Different plants have different growing needs — from acid-loving roses, gardenias, camellias and azaleas to phosphorus-sensitive Australian native plants, like the ever-trendy kangaroo paw — so be sure to find a potting mix that's right for your plants. Scotts Osmocote has a range of specialty potting mixes tailor-made for all our favourite plants. With more than 50 years of horticultural expertise inside every bag, each unique mix contains added goodies like wetting agents, growth stimulants, sustainably sourced materials and specific nutrients to bring out the best in your plants. PLANTING PERFECTLY Once you've found the ideal plant and the right pot, it’s time to bring it all together. STEP 1: Pick a pot that has good drainage and is slightly larger than the grower's pot your plant is in. If the pot is too big, there's a risk of excess potting mix remaining damp and leading to root rot. You can also combine different plants in the same pot to create stunning displays — just be sure they all like the same growing conditions. STEP 2: To get started, put your hand over the top of the grower's pot with your fingers spread around the base of the plant, then tip the pot upside down. Gently tap the base of the pot and the plant should come out. Once out, loosen the plant's root ball and brush away any old potting mix, without overly disturbing the roots. Remove any damaged, dried or twisted roots as this will help the plant settle and grow better in its new pot. If you are trimming the roots, it’s important to wipe the blade with rubbing alcohol between each cut to avoid spreading any diseases or unwanted bacteria. STEP 3: Partly fill your chosen pot with the right potting mix. For the best of the best, look out for Scotts Osmocote PremiumPlus Superior Some products are not available at all Bunnings stores, but may be ordered. Wear gloves and a mask when handling potting mix. Store all garden products out of the reach of children and pets. Scotts Osmocote controlled release fertiliser contains all the nutrients your plants need Potting Mix. It's the perfect choice for any potted plant and contains wetting agent and water storing crystals, coir peat which aids in moisture and nutrient retention, trace elements and growth stimulants. Position your plant so that it's planted at the same height as it was in the grower's pot, then gently pack the potting mix around your plant.
