Arrive Istanbul Welcome to Turkey and the legendary city of Istanbul, a unique city that stretches over two continents, straddling the Bosphorus (Istanbul Strait), with one bank in Europe and the other in Asia. This evening meet your fellow travellers and Tour Director for a welcome drink. Day 3. Istanbul “BD First, we visit the magnificent Topkapi Palace, once home to the great Sultans and their families. We'll then visit the stunning, unique Blue Mosque, built in 1609 by Sultan Ahmet. te Excite your taste buds with some of Turkey's most famous delicacies, including baklava, Turkish coffee, and of course, Turkish delight! Istanbul “B Today we will visit the domed Basilica of St. Sophia (Hagia Sophia), which has inspired architects and religious leaders for almost 1,500 years. We'll also make our way to the Underground Basilica Cistern, the largest surviving Byzantium Cistern and the Hippodrome. The afternoon is at leisure to further explore this extraordinary city. Day 5. Istanbul - Gallipoli- Ganakkale “BD Today we are traveling to Canakkale, a historic port city. Ganakkale is also the gateway to the Gallipoli Peninsula which is where we will be spending our day. he Pay homage to the spirit of the ANZACs in Gallipoli. We visit ANZAC Cove, the Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair Memorials, and Johnston’s Jolly with a specialist Gallipoli guide. Day 6. Canakkale - Troy - izmir BLD Today we'll continue south to the ancient port city of Izmir. En route we'll visit one of the oldest discovered sites in Asia Minor, Troy, the celebrated city of the Iliad. Continuing south, we'll stop at Pergamum where we'll visit the Asclepion, a famed ancient medical centre and the world's first psychiatric hospital! & Watch onasa local artisan demonstrates how to create a traditional Pide. Once out of the wood fire oven, we'll enjoy this Turkish pizza for lunch. Day 7. izmir - Cappadocia “BLD Our day begins with a transfer to the airport for our flight to Cappadocia, a UNESCO World Heritage site. For lunch we will prepare traditional dishes in a cooking class with locals in central Anatolia. In the afternoon we'll explore Zelve, known for its Open Air Museum and the village of Ortahisar. Day 8. Cappadocia @ Our sightseeing begins with a visit to the hidden monastic valley of Pasabagi. In the afternoon, we visit the fascinating Géreme Valley. The lunar-like landscape of this region is eerie, yet beautiful Day 9. Cappadocia - Konya Today we'll make our way to the village of Avanos, famous for its hand made pottery. Later we will explore one of the underground cities in the area where 6" century Christian inhabitants tunnelled into the soft volcanic rock hills to settle. In the afternoon we will continue our journey to Konya. Day 10. Konya - Pamukkale “BD Our morning begins in Konya with a visit to the fascinating Meviana Museum where we learn “BD about the Whirling Dervishes. Afterwards we'll drive to Catalhéyiik, the largest and best- preserved Neolithic site with artworks and wall paintings, dating back to 5,700 BC. Day 11. Pamukkale - Kusadasi “B Pamukkale is one of the highlights of Turkey. It's a surreal natural site of shallow white water basins and twisted stalagmaites. We'll also visit the site of Hierapolis, an ancient Greek city. From there, we'll continue to Kusadasi, visiting Aphrodisia on the way. Day 12. Kusadasi - Ephesus - Kusadasi BD Leather is a major industry in Turkey. Today, we will visit a leather factory and find out about the products they make there. We'll also spend time at Ephesus, the largest Roman city ever uncovered, and the House of Virgin Mary. This evening we'll head a local winery for wine tasting and dinner. Day 13. Patmos “BLD 4@ Embark Cruise: After breakfast we are transferred to the Kusadasi pier to embark our cruise of the Greek Islands. Our first port of call is the small island of Patmos, famous forits rich religious heritage. Day 14. Cruising: Rhodes “BLD In the morning we will arrive in Rhodes and explore the ancient citadel of the Knights. During our shore excursion, we'll also visit the tow of Lindos, famous for its Acropolis. Day 15. Cruising: Crete - Santorini BLD We arrive at the port of Heraklion in Crete to visit the well-preserved Knossos Palace of Minoan civilization. Afterwards, we will sail to Santorini to enjoy the island at your leisure. Day 16. End Cruise: Piraeus-Nafplio %*B We arrive at the port of Piraeus near Athens. After breakfast we'll visit the ruins of the ancient city of Corinth, the Temple of Apollo and the Fountain of Peirene. Next, we'll explore the Ancient Theatre in Epidaurus on the Argolid Peninsula before reaching our final stop for the day, Nafplio. Day 17. Nafplio BL Mycenae is one of Greece's most important archaeological sites and is the birthplace of the culture that dominated during the late Bronze Age. We'll visit the site this morning and explore a citadel with Cyclopean walls. W Visit a local village where we'll enjoy a hands-on lesson and cook up a Greek feast for lunch. Later we'll take a walk through the laneways of Nafplio. Day 18. Nafplio- Olympia-Nafpaktos B Today we'll make our way to the tiny fortified port city of Nafpaktos. En route we'll journey across the mountains of the Peloponnese to tour ancient Olympia, home of the Olympics. Day 19. Nafpaktos “B This morning we visit the castle of Nafpaktos and take in the stunning views of the Corinthian Gulf and the Rio-Antirio Bridge. * All aboard for a spectacular train ride connecting Diakopto to Kalavryta on the Odontotos ‘rack and pinion’ Railway. Many bridges span over the Vouraikos River and we pass through tunnels and picturesque countryside on our journey. Day 20. Nafpaktos - Delphi-Kalambaka *B We start the day with a guided tour of Delphi to see amazing archaelogical sites such as the Sanctuary of Apollo and the Treasury of Athenians. A visit to the museum which is home to the famous 'bronze charioteer' is also included in this tour. Day 21. Kalambaka - Athens ¥*B Today, we'll explore incredible Meteora and two of its monasteries. Meteora is made up of a series of monastic buildings perched on acluster of steep rocks that rise from a flat valley, it truly is an incredible sight! We'll follow the steps that are cut into the rock that lead up to the monasteries. Day 22. Athens “BD In Greece's capital, we'll visit famous sites such as the Acropolis, the Parthenon and the magnificent Erechtheion Temple. Later, we'll go on a walking tour in the picturesque Thissio, Monastiraki and Plaka districts. Tonight we enjoy a group farewell dinner. Day 23. Depart Athens Today marks the completion of our Turkey and Greece group tour and we bid farewell to our travellers. Day 24.
