Absheron Excursion *B Our sightseeing today begins with the local bazaar before stopping to admire Heydar Aliyev Cultural Centre, designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid. Later we'll visit the Baku Fire Temple and Burning Mountain. Also known as Yanardagh, this fascinating site is a steady and continuously burning natural gas fire on the side of a mountain! Day 5. Baku - Sheki Our first stop today is the old capital of Azerbaijan, Shamakhi. Here we'll visit the Juma Mosque and Yeddi Gumbaz Seven Tombs. We then continue to Sheki, famous for its intricately decorated Palace of Sheki Khans with magnificent frescos and colourful stained glass. We'll visit the Yukhari Caravanserai, a historic monument set amongst forests and hills. We then continue to the picturesque village of Kis. We'll walk through the Caucasus foothills before a group dinner back in Sheki this evening. Day 6. Sheki- Lagodekhi - Telavi BL We venture across the border into Lagodekhi, Georgia, this morning. On our way to Telavi we first stop in Kvareli to tour the impressive vines and tunnels of Khareba Winery. Next it's onto Gremi to see the spectacular hilltop architectural complex before finally arriving in Telavi, a small town in the foothills of the Tsiv- Gombori Range Day 7. Telavi “BL This morning we stop at the Bodbe Nunnery before continuing to nearby Sighnaghi, a fortified town where we take a walk through its narrow streets, admiring the beautiful views and unique charm. 1 Visit a local family for a cooking class of dishes from the Kakheti region. We'll savour our creations for lunch with music performed by polyphonic singers. Day 8. Telavi - Tbilisi “BD Today we depart for the town of Tbilisi and discover the sights on a city tour. Highlights include the Old Town, Metekhi Church, Georgian Synagogue, Sulphur Baths and Rustaveli Avenue. We'll also take a cable car from the Old Town to the Narikhala Fortress. The afternoon is at leisure for you to explore at your own pace. This evening we'll have dinner at a traditional restaurant, complete with a folk show. Day 9. Tbilisi We'll discover Tbilisi's hidden corners with further sightseeing in this colourful town. Akhvlediani House-Museum, complete with nibbles and an aperitif. Day 10. Tbilisi - Kazbegi Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia, is our first stop today. Here we'll visit the Jvari, amedieval, cross-shaped monastery, with panoramic views over the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. We then continue to Kazbegi, visiting the Ananuri architectural complex on our way. Day 11. Kazbegi ® BL Kazbegi, otherwise known as Stepantsminda, is a small valley town set along the banks of the Terek River, with the towering peak of Mt Kazbek looking down from the west. We'll explore the town centre on foot, before making our way by 4WD up to the Gergeti Trinity Church. Situated high on the Chkheri riverbank its position makes it one of Georgia's most iconic sights. te Visit a local family where we'll participate in a hands-on dumpling masterclass and enjoy lunch in their home. Kazbegi - Kutaisi BL Today we visit lago’s winery, known for its traditional qvevri method (using buried clay barrels) to produce organic red and white Georgian wines. We then travel to Gori, in the regional capital of Shida Kartli, which is known as the birthplace of Joseph Stalin. We also visit the Stalin Museum, before venturing to the ancient rock-hewn town of Uplistsikhe, as we make our way to Kutaisi. Day 13. Kutaisi Today we'll see the sights of Kutaisi, the former ancient capital of the Kingdom of Colchis. Highlights include the Bagrati Cathedral, local farmers market and the Gelati Monastery. Next, we'll head to the Prometheus Caves, a 1.2 kilometre cave complex filled with breathtaking stalactites, stalagmites, petrified waterfalls and underground rivers. Day 14. Kutaisi - Borjomi - Vardzia “BD Borjomiis our first stop today as we travel towards the cave city of Vardzia. We'll take a tour through Borjomi, including its park and sample the famous local mineral water. We continue to the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, visiting the Rabati Castle and stopping past the Khertvisi Fortress, one of the oldest in Georgia. Day 15. Vardzia “BD This morning we visit the impressive Vardzia cave monastery, a fascinating complex dug out of solid rock for Queen Tamar. Visit a nunnery in upper Vardzia, where nuns will teach us how to handcraft ooden crosses and honey wax candles. Enjoy dinner tonight at a local guesthouse. Day 16. Vardzia - Dilijan ~BD We cross the border into Armenia this morning and travel to Gyumri where we visit St Astvatsatsin Church before continuing to Dilijan. Day 17. Dilijan - Yerevan Dilijan is known for its traditional craft workshops and art studios. We'll explore some of these as we walk along Sharambeyan Street, lined with traditional houses made of stone and wood. Day 18. Yerevan Today we visit the Matenadaran Museum, home to some of the oldest repositories ¥B “eB BL *B of Greek, Persian and Arabic manuscripts. We then explore the Armenian capital, discovering the various layers of the town's history, walking past medieval shrines, Republic Square and the Opera House before continuing to a local Khachkar workshop. Day 19. Garni & Geghard Excursions “BL We'll travel to the picturesque Avan Canyon, with spectacular views over the landscape. hy Master the art of baking your very own Lavash, a traditional Armenian thin bread.
