14 days MS Fram Departure: 6 October 2024 HIGHLIGHTS OF SOUTH AMERICA LAND AND SEA EXPEDITION Journey from Panama to Peru through the legendary Panama Canal, down the Pacific coast and across the Altiplano on this cruise and land adventure combination. The Panama Canal, beaches and bananas Your journey starts as you transit the full length of the Panama Canal. Once through, we sail south to Manta in Ecuador and the nearby town of Montecristi where Panama hats were first created. Later, we arrive at Puerto Bolivar, known as the âBanana Capital of the Worldâ. After a relaxing day at sea, you'll head to Trujillo in Peru to explore the ruins of ancient kingdoms. Inca histories and ancient mysteries Leaving the ship in Lima, you'll fly to Cusco and visit historical sites in and around the former Inca capital, including the imposing Sacsayhuaman fortress. The following morning, we'll head to Ollantaytambo and board the luxury Belmond Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu. Wander the ruins, admire its awe-inducing setting, and imagine what life must have been like here during Inca times. The wonders of Lake Titicaca We'll continue on the Andean Plateau (Altiplano) to Lake Titicaca, the largest lake in South America. Located 12,500 feet above sea level, the lake is simply stunning. A boat will take you across to visit the Uru community, who live on floating islands handwoven fromreeds. Meet the locals in the village of LlachĂ©n on the Capachica peninsula and try your hand at kayaking on the lake. You'll also explore the pre-Inca tombs of Sillustani before your journey ends in Lima.
