The Panama Canal, beaches and bananas Your journey starts with an overnight in ColĂ©n, before spending the next day transiting the full length of the Panama Canal. Once through, we sail south with our course set for Manta in Ecuador and the town of Montecristi, where Panama hats were first created and are still handmade today. Later, we arrive at Puerto Bolivar, known as the ‘Banana Capital of the World’. After a relaxing day at sea, you'll head to Trujillo in Peru to explore the ruins of ancient kingdoms. Inca wonders, ancient mysteries and UNESCO Sites Next you'll visit Lima and explore the city’s UNESCO- listed historic centre, and then set course for Paracas, where you'll see the wildlife of the Ballestas Islands or the famous Nazca Lines. Enjoy the sunshine and beaches in Arica and visit an old mining town in the Atacama Desert near Iquique. We'll then stop at La Serena, Chile's second-oldest city, with as many as 30 Spanish- era churches, before your expedition ends in the colourful port of Valparaiso. In true expedition style we'll adapt to local sea and weather conditions whenever we need to, and during days at sea you'll be able to take advantage of the ship's excellent learning, leisure and dining facilities.
