Day 1. Lima, Paracas From Lima, transfer by private vehicle to the Peruvian port town of Paracas. On arrival, check into your beachside hotel, La Hacienda Bahia Paracas. Nazca Lines Thought to have been created around 1,500 years ago by a pre-Inca Civilisation, the Nazca Lines are a series of geometric lines carved into the Nazca Desert, along with more than 70 animal geoglyphs. Board a small aircraft in Pisco for an aerial flight to see these World Heritage-listed etchings. Learn how the lines — trenches dug through a pebble layer to reveal a different coloured subsoil — have been preserved due to the stable and windless desert climate. Watch for more well-known zoomorphic figures, like the condor, spider, fish and hummingbird. Then return to Paracas, for time to relax at leisure. B Day 3. Ballestas Islands From Paracas, visit the nearby Ballestas Islands. Board your hotel's own vessel and cruise along the Peruvian coastline to explore wildlife-rich islands, often described as a mini Galdpagos, for its abundance of blue-footed boobies, fur seals, sea lions, Humboldt penguins and more. On the way out to the islands, you'll pass the Paracas Candelabra. Like the geoglyphs of Nazca, little is known of this giant geoglyph carved into the desert dune. After taking in this incredible marking and the wildlife of the Ballestas Islands, return to shore.
